General Safety Guidelines
Safe use at home
- Assemble furniture exactly as instructed. Use the correct hardware and do not substitute parts.
- Re-check and tighten fasteners after initial use, then periodically (especially on beds, tables, and flatpacks).
- Place items on a level surface. Uneven floors can cause instability and damage.
- Do not stand, jump, or climb on furniture not designed for that purpose.
- Keep open flames and strong heat sources away from furniture, fabrics, and foam.
- Use furniture within its intended purpose and weight limits (where provided).
- Supervise children around moving furniture (recliners, sofa beds) and heavy items.
Tip-Over & Stability (Critical)
Tall furniture (dressers, tallboys, bookcases)
- Secure tall or heavy furniture to the wall using the supplied anti-tip kit (or a suitable wall anchor).
- Place heavier items in lower drawers/shelves to keep the centre of gravity low.
- Do not allow children to climb, hang, or pull on drawers/shelves.
- Only open one drawer at a time to reduce tip-over risk.
- Do not use drawers as steps.
If you need help choosing the correct wall fixings for your wall type (plasterboard/brick/concrete), contact us.
TV units & entertainment furniture
- Position TVs centrally and as far back as practical on the unit.
- Do not exceed shelf weight limits where listed.
- Use cable management to reduce trip hazards and pulling.
- Consider securing the TV and the unit for added stability, especially with children.
Moving Parts & Pinch Points
Recliners (manual & electric)
- Keep hands, feet, clothing, and objects clear of moving mechanisms.
- Do not allow children or pets to play on or under recliners.
- Operate the recliner while seated and close fully when not in use.
- For electric recliners: keep cords clear of pinch points and walkways.
- Stop use if movement becomes uneven or strained and contact us.
Sofa beds & lift-up storage beds
- Open/close slowly and keep the area clear.
- Keep children away while operating due to pinch points.
- Do not force mechanisms—check for obstructions.
- Ensure support legs and locking points are engaged before use.
- Follow any weight limits provided for sleeping surfaces or storage compartments.
Electrical & Powered Furniture
Safe power use
- Only use the supplied power adaptor/charger where required.
- Keep liquids away from power packs, motors, switches, and USB ports.
- Do not run cords under rugs or where they can be pinched or damaged.
- Unplug before moving the furniture or cleaning around electrical parts.
- If you notice frayed cords, burning smells, or unusual noises, stop using the product and contact us.
Glass, Mirrors & Stone Surfaces
Glass tables & shelves
- Avoid placing heavy, sharp, or hot items directly on glass surfaces.
- Do not sit or stand on glass tables or shelves.
- Check fasteners and supports periodically; tighten if needed.
- If glass is chipped or cracked, stop using the item and contact us.
Mirrors
- Wall-mount mirrors using suitable fixings for your wall type and mirror weight.
- Do not place mirrors where they can be knocked over (especially in children’s rooms).
- If a mirror is damaged, handle carefully and keep children away.
Outdoor Furniture Safety
Outdoor placement & weather
- Place outdoor furniture on stable, level ground to reduce rocking and tipping.
- Secure umbrellas properly and close them in windy conditions to prevent tipping.
- In storms or high winds, store lightweight items and cushions indoors.
- Hot surfaces: metal and dark materials can heat up in direct sun—use caution.
- Keep BBQs and open flames a safe distance away from outdoor furniture and cushions.
Mattress & Bedding Safety
Safe sleeping basics
- Use a supportive, compatible bed base and ensure the frame is structurally sound.
- Keep mattresses dry and well ventilated to reduce mould risk.
- Do not smoke in bed and keep all ignition sources away from bedding and mattresses.
- Children: ensure bunk beds, guard rails, and ladders are used as directed.
Before You Move or Lift Furniture
Handling & lifting
- Lift with two people for large/heavy items. Use proper lifting technique to protect your back.
- Remove drawers, shelves, and loose cushions before moving where possible.
- Do not drag furniture by the upholstery, arms, or headrests—move using the frame/base.
- For powered furniture, unplug first and secure cords to prevent damage.
